East Pier closed due to dangerous waves

East Pier closed due to dangerous waves

There were dramatic scenes here in Howth over the weekend with the Coast Guard closing the East pier for safety reasons. Huge waves were seen sweeping over the pier causing safety issues to walkers and passers by.

The Coast Guard warned: "If you see the spray of the waves reaching on the pier, don’t walk it. Waves can be unpredictable, a lull of ten minutes can be followed by intense waves powerful enough to knock you over and cause injury or wash you off the pier wall."

The Coast Guard added: "We ask the public to call the Coast Guard at 112 or 999 if they see people who are likely to get into difficulty, don’t expect someone else to make the call."

Grub Spy in Howth

Grub Spy in Howth

The Grub Spy gang from the Sunday World were out in Howth. The cleverly made their way to The Brass Monkey and had a slap up feast of seafood and the like.

We're delighted to say we passed all the tests! They enjoyed our prawns Pil Pil, scallops and monkfish scampi. They enjoyed portion of mussels & felt they were good value at €8. It seems no one can resist our sticky toffee pudding. A firm favourite with everyone young and old.

So if you're coming to Howth in the next few weeks be sure to call to the Brass Monkey on the West Pier for a great time, every time.

Best seafood restaurant in Howth.

Best seafood restaurant in Howth.

We got a lovely write up by The Culture Trip.com. Howth has for many years evolved as a fantastic food destination for locals and tourists. With it's beautiful walks, boat trips and seal spotting it certainly whets your appetite for great seafood, oysters, beer battered fish & chips and creamy chowder.

We love what we do here at The Brass Monkey. We are very lucky to have such incredible fresh produce on our doorstep such as local smoked salmon from Nicky's Plaice via the West Pier, Doran's seafood and great Irish producers.

The Dublin Bay Prawn Festival during the summer was a huge success and thousands flocked to Howth for some great food, music and family fun. So next time you are thinking about what to do with the family, hop on the DART and give Howth a try!

Gardaí raid fishing trawlers in Howth over probe into illegal workers

Gardaí raid fishing trawlers in Howth over probe into illegal workers

Members of the dedicated Garda Immigration Unit were searching trawlers in Howth Harbour recently. Gardai searched a number of fishing trawlers in ports across the country as part of an investigation into the use of unregistered migrant workers. The latest raid was in Howth and followed similar inspections of vessels in Cork, Galway, Kerry, Louth and Donegal.

It is understood the primary focus of the probe was the movement of undocumented workers from countries in Africa and South East Asia. A number of individuals in the fishing industry were questioned by detectives following raids on specific trawlers. Gardai say they received full co-operation from the fishing industry operatives they contacted.

Never a dull moment in Howth.
